"Phoenix House - Unhelpful, Understaffed and Riddled with Drug Use!"

I voluntarily went back to Phoenix House in Citra, FL, after 20 years, hoping it would have improved. But, sadly, my 3-and-a-half-month stay didn't impress me. The treatment offered at the house was next to nothing. We only had two proper group sessions from Tuesday through Friday - that's it! The house was tragically short-staffed. They were even taking in folks dealing with serious mental illnesses who were then looked after by staff who might not know the first thing about proper care! Illegal drug use was a daily affair, and it seemed like nothing was in place to stop it. The Operations Director seemed utterly clueless. The person in charge seemed disliked by everyone, and he didn't seem to have any real plans to fix things. Without a good leader, I'm worried Phoenix House is on its way down. Every new rule they tried while I was there didn't seem to stick. People spend their time watching TV, sleeping, messing with their phones, or just aimlessly walking around. No one was using their time for anything worthwhile. In the end, I was thankful for the break I got staying at Phoenix House. But if you're trying to find a place that can really help with addiction issues, think twice before choosing Phoenix House.
