"Painful Struggles of a Recovering Mother in a CPI Program"
I was in this program for nearly 5 months. I always followed the rules, never failed a drug test, and my daughter was born healthy and drug-free. Just as she was about to be discharged to me, CPI took her away because of my past mistakes. They removed my baby when I was breastfeeding her. She's now 3 months old and I haven't held her since she was a month old. Even though I was on track to get in-person visits and finally get to hold my baby, I was kicked out of the program for not following instructions. I need surgery on my ankle and asked for an elevator pass but was denied. When I appealed to higher authorities, they dismissed me and started packing up my things. I've never been so scared. Even minor missteps can be used to kick you out if they want you out. Now, I fear I may lose my daughter for good because the court will see I was discharged from the program. I have no support to help me fight for my daughter. When I was pleading and crying, they coldly told me I had two minutes before they would make things difficult for me. I am praying to get outpatient services. I'd do anything to finish the program. I was so close. I am recovering, and despite having this traumatic experience, I still haven't relapsed. But I am terrified. I can't bear the thought of losing my baby.
